What is the best Home School program for 1 years use?

Ann-Marie D asked:

My son is in 6th grade and has been too sick to go to school this year. I wish to take him out of school and home school him to catch up with his work and then get him back into the school system in the fall for 7th grade. I’m looking for the best program for this short term use. Thank you for any help.

The American School is out of Illinois and you can only do one year if you wanted to.

Could you borrow some of his textbooks from the school?

K12 is a *wonderful* curriculum. You could purchase the online subscription by the month and just use it through the summer until fall. Or you could purchase a one-year contract.

(Note: K12 is not *only* a virtual public school provider - you can purchase it for independent HS’ing use.)

I am so sorry to hear of your son’s illness. May he have a speedy and complete recovery and be healthy from now on!
If you are only planning to homeschool him for the rest of this year, your best bet is to do it through your school district. In this way, he will receive the same materials he would use if he was in school, at no cost. You may also qualify for a teacher from the district to come and oversee his work.
I do not recommend you use a different curriculum. Many of the homeschool curriculums are excellent, but he would be learning an entirely different set of material, which would result in confusion when he returns to school.
Contact your district for further information.
All the best to you and your son. Be well.

Since you are planning to put him back in school when he recovers you might be able to go through the school board. Normally we tell people not to talk to the school board because they are anti-home school but in your case and since you want him in public school its a good idea. Our area has a program for home bound students. They provide all the materials you need and a teacher who gives assignments and all you have to do is make sure he is getting them done and that he understands the work.
