I stopped showing up at my public high school for three or so weeks and enrolled in a home education program before I officially unenrolled.

They were calling my house every day informing my parents that I was not there.. which they knew, obviously.. but never made a fuss about it.

You can unenroll before you enroll in a home education program but the public school will make you feel like you’re doing something wrong and try to convince you to stay in their school.

Don’t let your parents give in to what they’re saying. The only reason they want you there is because they lose money every student that leaves they’re school.

Good luck =) I left my high school in February of this year with seven credits and am already graduated (as of this summer)!

This is what happened to me. The deadline was close when i started and had to make a decision. Every program has it’s procedure so yours might be different. Mine, I had to go to an interview and qualify for cyber school. You get started right away with your courses online. If the procedure is taking too long for you. I highly suggest looking up some online school programs in your area. You usually register at a high school and get your report cards from there., But you cannot just NOT GO. You have to be doing some sort of school in September.

The start time is less important than the notification. Some states give deadline for notification of withdrawal from the th public school. You want to be sure that you comply with this date. You just don’t want to stop showing up without the proper notification. That is when you are more likely to experience difficulty with your school district. You will be assumed truant. If you properly notify the district, then you are less likely to be targeted as truant.
Once you are legally and officially withdrawn from your school the actual start date is much less important. The states that have time periods for school, only state that you must attend 180 school days, and/or a specified number of hours per day. Beyond that you can set your own schedule. That includes scheduling a 4 day work week (this is what we do) scheduling a school week that runs from Wednesday through Sunday to meet special work schedules of a family member.. You can even decide to work from 3:in the afternoon till 6 pm if that best suits your study habits. There are times when my son completes his school work after everyone else in the house is in bed because he can concentrate best that way.
You can check out your states homeschool laws here:

Best wishes as you begin your homeschooling career.

I know what you mean. Depends on where you live, (I live in AZ), and I went about a week & a half between stopping public school & starting homeschool. Don’t go to public school. Just wait for your papers. You won’t get in trouble.. It’ll be fine :)
