How can a single mom of 3 home school one of her kids on a limited income?

charlotte b asked:

My son fell behind in his freshman year of high school, it was suggested that we home school him over the summer to bring him back up to sophmore level, So far I’ve been told It will cost 350.00 dollars per subject per semester work.So
for a credit in one core subject it would cost 700.00 dollars. he needs at least 4 credits. Ours is single income single parent family of 4. I couldn’t afford to pay the 350.00 for a semester. There has to be a better way. Any information on how to home school on a limited income would help.

well if he could go to summer school it would be a lot better. if not i would say let him take 9th grade over again and learn that high school is not a joke. sometimes you have to be held back to go forward.

Too many variables here, without knowing your state laws, and public school policies- suggest you research these sites:)

i home school my daugther and find it alot better but it will be time consuming at times. there’s a website for $8.95 a month etap.org good curriculum. then theres also American school that will give him credits and graduate. if your children decide to stay in homeschool you will have to notify the school superintendent that you are establishing a bonafide school for ________ and it will be based at this address. also another book is Homeschool your child for free theres more than 1200 smart, effective and practical resources for home ed. on the internet and beyond. i wish you and your children the best of luck and feel free to email me.

Try the a beca homeschooling curriclum. It is Christan oriented but a very good program. It is associated with Penoscola Christian College (PCC. Sometimes they sell the teachers books and students books second hand.

The program is a little challenging but they ofer all kinds subjects plus instructional videos and prewritten lesson plans. it is really easy to use. It costs a lot less than the programs you looked into.

Here’s a different solution. Increase your income! I know that this may sound difficult, however, I coach “work at home” activities that can easily generate an extra $500 to $1,000 per month with a little bit of work. These business ideas are flexible and can even be done if you already have a full time job. Write for specific details. Bruce at . I can help with this problem. The good news is that when your done paying for the extra schooling, you can use the extra money for something else. Also, some of my students build permanent full time incomes of $5,000 or more per month and then quit their old job.
