Home School?

April C asked:

My husband & I are considering home schooling our two children. Our children are still too young to go to school, but we are just trying to figure out what we will do when they are school age. For homeschooling parents, what are the advantages & disadvantages that you have had in your experiences, do you or your children feel like you are missing out on anything? For homeschooling children, do you like it, & do you feel like you are missing out on anything?

im 15, and i personally am glad i was never home schooled. i think its an opportunity to build vital social skills. Of course there are down sides, bullying being one, but i think it helps to have to deal with conflicts when you’re young so you know how to deal with them when you’re older.

My dad’s girlfriend’s kids are home schooled and they lead a very sheltered life. If you do home school, just be sure not to shelter them.

Hello, I am 12 and have been home schooled my whole life it is convenient but I would like to have friends my age don’t home school them cause now I have this weird attachment to my mom since second grade. I would let them go to school and have those memory’s. I know I wish I did. :) But on the other hand it is nice to be home schooled because I have learned a lot more than I would in normal school and I can do my work weeks ahead I don’t know this is your call. I would make them go to school until they are old enough to decide for them selves. Like until 5th grade after they graduate. But you know everyone has there opinion. So Good Luck! Either way you will make the right decision. And if you do decide to Home School them use South East Academy Online. It is a wonderful program and goes from 1st grade - 12th grade and goes into a college portion. Well Good Luck :)

There are many advantages to home schooling:

•Safer Environment: You’re safe from the dangers of public school.
•Better Education: You choose what you want to learn, and you can better concentrate on your school work.
•More Freedom: You’re not confined to one classroom for 6 hours per day. You can do whatever you want. The world’s your classroom.

The only thing is that there are ignorant critics, but just tell them to take a hike.

The people that I know that are home schooled seem to think that there’s something wrong with public schools. This one lady I know met a kid that was home schooled and she told him that she went to a public school and his responce was,”So you didn’t get shot!?” Well, no, she wasn’t shot BECAUSE PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE PERFECTLY SAFE!! Pretty much the worst thing that could happen is your kid could get into a fight, but the fights I’ve seen have only happened to the kids that aren’t exactly good, if you get what I mean.

You’re also having someone that has been to college to learn about how to teach and had years of experience teaching your child. The school may also have a program for children that are more advanced than others. For example, most people in my grade are going onto algebra, but I took prealgebra, algebra, and geometry two years before them so now I’m going onto algrbra 2.

You are not sitting at a desk for 6 hours like someone said. You have electives, recess and breaks, too. The electives can be really fun and educational. The after school activities are amazing, too. I took chorus for 3 years, did bell ringing, and took Latin. Some people took tech, computer, band, home-ec class, drama, or forein languages like Latin, Spanish, or French. Our school also has lots of sports teams like cross country, track, basketball, and wrestling.

The home schooled people I know are also VERY sheltered. Some of them seem to not really know how to act around people and most of them seem not to have very many friends, though I’m sure not all of them are like that. I’m not saying you shouldn’t home school you child because I’m sure there’s some sort of logical reason for that, but I do not recomend it.

Thanks!

Well, ummm I haven’t been home schooled, but i know my Mom’s cousin’s kids do. I would think it’s a bad decision, because they wouldn’t have any friends, so they would be very lonely sometimes, unless they have a friend/sibling to do school with! The good thing I think would be that there wouldn’t be any bullies.

I have been home schooled my whole life. I love it!!!!! I still have a lot of friends (both other home schoolers and public school kids). I hear about stories from kids who go to public school and I am so happy I am home schooled. I get help with the things I need more help with and I can move quicker in things that come easy for me. There are lot’s of home school groups for school, sports, music, art, etc. Homeschooling is awesome and I think you should definitely try it. If you don’t like it, you can always send your kids to school.

The advantages of homeschooling is that you are keeping Secret Societies away from your kid. This invisible cartel of College Fraternities, Freemasonry, and Eastern Star have taken over our school system. It is subversive, and you want to keep it far away from your child. I was sexually assaulted at school by these people while I was at school. Read my blog:

If you live in California you should looked into CAVA (California Virtual Academy). They also have them in each state and it is the best plus it is a free homeschool that is accredited. I have had nothing but excellent experiences. The only thing the kids are supposedly missing out is socializing with 19 more children who may on occasion spread their viral germs, take their lunch, or even bully them. Just depends. Also, you never know what type of teacher you are going to have and what problems he/she may have. I have experience the public school system and I pass.
